The 2016 production team is developing a number of extra events that will be held during the convention.
NSS Historical Initiative
In operation since 1941, the NSS is in serious need of an institutional timeline of our own historical accomplishments.
We're working on a large conservation-themed public mural that will be donated to the Ely Renaissance Society in 2016.
White Pine Speleo-Fest
The opening Saturday of our convention will feature a large festival in downtown Ely dedicated to cave conservation! This free event is open to the public.
Special Event Station
The NSS 75th Anniversary Convention will be host to the amateur radio special event station N5S.
The ghost town of Berlin, Nevada was established in 1897 as part of the Union Mining District after the opening of the Berlin Mine. At its peak, the town had about 75 buildings and 300 residents. It never prospered to the same extent as other boom towns like Tonopah and Goldfield, and declined following the Panic of 1907. The site was largely abandoned by 1911.
The site was acquired by the state of Nevada as part of Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park in 1970.
